FOUNDATION

The Van Oostrom Foundation was founded on 5 November 2021 and is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce ('Kamer van Koophandel') under 84477539.

OBJECTIVE

The Van Oostrom Foundation focuses its policies on its statutory objective as described below.

The purpose of the foundation, as an organisation of public benefit according to Article 5b of the Dutch General Tax Act or any other regulation that may replace it, is to serve the public interest in the following ways:

  1. to promote and/or contribute to a better world, by providing value to people, society and/or the environment, temporarily or for a longer period, incidentally or structurally, especially in the field of the environment, sustainability and (the promotion of) social inclusion and/or other social themes, at home and abroad, regionally and nationally;
  2. to participate in (special) events, publications, meetings, potentially in partnership with other institutions or social organisations that promote the general interest, creating a platform for the aforementioned objective;
  3. to serve the public interest in other ways.

To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the foundation raises funds and/or manages funds and/or pays out funds for the benefit of the aforementioned objectives. The foundation may perform activities that are directly or indirectly related to its objectives or that promote these in the broadest sense.

The foundation tries to achieve its objective by all appropriate means, including:

  • providing financial or in-kind support to third-party projects and/or initiatives, in the area of the aforementioned objectives, including but not limited to providing (micro) credit(s);
  • offering advice to organisations and/or initiatives in the field of the aforementioned objectives;
  • channelling, organising and/or guiding actions, and acquiring and providing resources that contribute to achieving the aforementioned objectives;
  • subsidising (scientific) research;
  • obtaining information and advice from knowledgeable specialists in the field of the aforementioned objectives;
  • (re)investing available assets, with the proceeds being used (almost) exclusively to achieve the aforementioned objectives;
  • obtaining financial support, for example in the form of endowments, inheritances (only under the privilege of inventory) and gifts (in whatever form) as well as applying for grants; and
  • performing (or have others perform) any other actions related to the above purpose in the broadest sense of the word, or which may contribute to these.

With the exception of the aforementioned provisions, any business activity that could pose a commercial risk to the foundation is in principle excluded, on the understanding that investments are allowed if repayment of the nominal deposit is reasonably guaranteed.

MISSION/VISION

There is a large group of (starting) entrepreneurs around the world, that for various reasons, has no or insufficient access to mainstream (financial) services when starting or running their business. By facilitating this group of entrepreneurs we contribute to their economic, financial and social independence and give them the opportunity to grow into mainstream (financial) services. This promotes entrepreneurship and has a positive social and economic impact on society.

Impact investments are investments that primarily focus on achieving positive social effects. Financial returns are important, but are not the most important goal. The foundation wants to mainly use its investments to generate social impact (impact first).
